On Oct 20, 2014, more than 100 CSO leaders from various sectors such as women, PWD, informal settlers, fisherfoks, farmers, youth, labor, transport, SMEs and coops, NGOs and groups of Higaonon Indigenous People and Moro have participated in the city-wide CSO assembly in Iligan City to participate in the Grassroots Participatory Planning for 2016. Initiated and supported by the DILG, the event was mainly mainly facilitated by the Community Mobilizer for GPP or more known as Bottom-up-Budgeting (BUB), Mr. Val Galorio, and opened by DILG City Director Emilio Rana. As the incumbent co-chair of the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team (LPRAT) of Iligan Ciity which is chaired by the city mayor, EcoWEB Executive Director assisted the facilitation of the event. Representing the local government, City Planning and Development Officer Arch. Gil Balondo also made a brief updates on the status of the BUB/GPB projects approved in 2014 for Iligan City.
With most of the approved BUB projects for 2014 yet to be implemented, participants to the assembly still considered the poverty incidence in the city to be high and still mostly identified unemployment, low productivity, lack of livelihood opportunities, inadequate social services including education, and peace and order problem as among the root causes . However, the participants are hopeful for a positive impact to poverty alleviation of the more than 40 projects amounting to over P43M for 2014 and another P30M worth or projects for 2015.
