ECOWEB Attended the First Quarter NAPC VDC Council Meeting

Elected as a member of the national council in the last General Assembly of the VDC Sector of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), ECOWEB Executive Director attended the first council meeting of the council and co-facilitated its strategic planning.

RPRAT Meeting for Strengthening BUB Implementation at DILG 10

One of the meetings the Regional Poverty Reduction Action Team (RPRAT) of Region 10 headed by Dir. Rene Burdeos held at the DILG hall in its regional office in Cagayan de Oro City where member agencies have updated the status of the implementation of the Bottom-up-Budgeting (BUB) programs and projects for 2014 and 2015. Guidelines for BUB programming for 2016 was also discussed in this meeting on Febfruary 24, 2015.

The CSOs of Iligan Engaging the Local Poverty Reduction Action Program of the Government of the Philippines Thru the Bottom-Up Budgeting Process

The CSOs of Iligan together with the Liga ng Barangay Board Members, joined and participated the Sangguniang Panglungsod Session last April 21, 2015, to seek approval of the 2015 20% City Development Fund that include the P12M counterpart for the P30M 2015 BUB Local Poverty Reduction Action Program and requested the SP to authorize a mayor to sign the MOA between the city governmnet agencies for the implementation of the BUB (Bottom-Up Budgeting).

Iligan Civil Society Conducts Assembly for Grassroots Participatory Planning and Budgeting

On Oct 20, 2014, more than 100 CSO leaders from various sectors such as women, PWD, informal settlers, fisherfoks, farmers, youth, labor, transport, SMEs and coops, NGOs and groups of Higaonon Indigenous People and Moro have participated in the city-wide CSO assembly in Iligan City to participate in the Grassroots Participatory Planning for 2016. Initiated and supported by the DILG, the event was mainly mainly facilitated by the Community Mobilizer for GPP or more known as Bottom-up-Budgeting (BUB), Mr. Val Galorio, and opened by DILG City Director Emilio Rana. As the incumbent co-chair of the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team (LPRAT) of Iligan Ciity which is chaired by the city mayor, EcoWEB Executive Director assisted the facilitation of the event. Representing the local government, City Planning and Development Officer Arch. Gil Balondo also made a brief updates on the status of the BUB/GPB projects approved in 2014 for Iligan City.

With most of the approved BUB projects for 2014 yet to be implemented, participants to the assembly still considered the poverty incidence in the city to be high and still mostly identified unemployment, low productivity, lack of livelihood opportunities, inadequate social services including education, and peace and order problem as among the root causes . However, the participants are hopeful for a positive impact to poverty alleviation of the more than 40 projects amounting to over P43M for 2014 and another P30M worth or projects for 2015.
