ECOWEB's Ecorganic coffee has expanded in the municipality of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte. The newly established nursery that is managed by a cooperative of coffee farmers with support from the local government unit of Nunungan, the cooperative is now growing 40,000 seedlings to cover 40 hectares coffee plantation by September this year. Vice Mayor Manamparan of the Nunungan municipality said that they could safely target at least 300 hectares Ecorganic coffee in the next 3 years and a total of 1,000 hectares in the next 5 years. 100,000 old coffee trees are also due for rejuvenation with the use Ecorganic fertilizer.
Nunungan municipality is considered one of the conflict-affected areas in the province, effect of which is the slow economic development of the place. The Nunungan LGU and ECOWEB is targeting that the Ecorganic coffee will help boost the local economy of the place and contribute to the building of sustainable peace of this marginalized and hard to access area due to its bad road condition and reputation for fragile peace and order condition.
